Reminisence on an Old Theme

And you moved on
Faster than me
So I held tighter
I couldn’t say goodbye
To the only memoires I had
Precious moments fading to nothing
And losing their meaning
Only keeping shreds of sad and bittersweet
Thoughts, were getting distorted
I was forgetting why I even stayed
Why had you moved on
When I was still there
Fading to blackness
A dark splash of color
A spot left behind

See I was stuck
I had been pushed to the dirt
By my own thoughts
Thinking I had a broken heart
But then I woke up
Purple fading to orange fading to yellow
I was struck by a bolt of lightning
That shatters a dream to bits
And I realized
That hearts don’t break
If they did I wouldn’t be here
No, they just bruise
But the thing with bruises is
They heal
They heal and get better
We all heal
We get back up
And the dark spot begins to fade away

So get up
I tell myself
Get up and move on
Keep walking and don’t look back
But you can remember the smiles
And of course keep smiling
These are the mantras I tell myself
As I brush the dirt off
Looking forward
Taking care not to hit the tender spots

I had to accept that it was over
And learn that I was okay
That I am okay
Finally okay
And only then could I move on
See myself again as just me
Plain old beautiful me
And not a hybrid in love

And so I say again
My heart was never broken
If it were I wouldn’t be here
I would be a mere figment
Of someone’s imagination
Lost in a dark corner of one’s brain
Who falls from love
But I am not lost anymore
I was just stuck in my own head
That fell from love
But now, finally,
The colors fade away
The tenderness eases
The bruise is gone
