Look to the Birds
The hardest part of loving someone is letting them go
the mother bird seems to know
when to let her babies jump from the nest
starting their own life
do you think she ever goes back
to check on them?
bringing house warming gifts
and the warmth of her motherly love?
no.
that is strictly human
why does it seem nature knows
more than humans?
we have learned from the trees
whose leaves change in the fall
we have learned from the sea
whose endless tide laps at the shore
we created words to describe nature,
the being which we fruitlessly strive to control
despite what we may think
nature controls us,
because we are weak compared to
the lightning's strike
and the thunder's boom
the birds know when a storm is coming
more accurately than we do
birds fly, leaving a deathly quiet behind
and an ominous foreshadow
we have learned
how to gain the upper hand, however,
we use our force to control something
we shouldn't dare touch
and the birds, despite their greater wisdom,
leave their nest
knowing that everything must come to an end
for either way, sooner or later,
all they hold dear will be gone
and they will be ruined
because the hardest part of loving something is eventually letting it go
